Xmen meets Fallout: Deathend
Deathend, which is called "Endwelt" in Germany, is a very nice browser game with the atmosphere of movies like "Madmax" or PC games like "Fallout" series. The story takes place in 2090 in a post nuclear world. The world's nations had previously destroyed each other with atom bombs and the newly devised DNA-bombs that changed the DNA of its victims.
In the desert of concrete and steel that remained to opposing parties struggle for control of the remaining resources: Humans and mutants. The human fraction consists of 4 sub categories which are: The "Yeomen", just want to go on with their normal lives and rebuild civilisation. The "Marauders" are rebels who organize in small gangs and clans. The "Children of Gaia" have learned from the destructive power of technology and want to live in harmony with nature. And last but not least, the "Technotics" are the exact opposite of the aforementioned trying to modify themselves to cyborg-perfection by slowly replacing their body parts with artificial components.
The mutants also come in 4 "tribes": The "Grunges" are thugs with superhuman strength and live on the street. They have been genetically mutated since they could not find shelter when the bombs exploded. The "ESPers" are feared amongst humans and mutants alike for their powerful mutation: They can use PSI-powers to manipulate each and everything with their minds. The "Nocturnos" are mutants who have retreated deep into the bunkers under the earth. Because of lacking food and energies they have learned to feast on the living like vampires. The "Illuminated" are a sort of religious mutants who see mutation as part of a greater revelation. They want to spread the word of this new religion, with force if necessary.
Once a player has chosen his gender, fraction and "tribe" he will have to perform the typical browser game mechanics to get experience and treasures. Water is the universal currency in this game and uranium opens up more possibilities as the premium currency. And players will need a lot of both since you can buy DNA-upgrades for your body, faster cars, and all kinds of equipment. The mechanic for ranged weapons is very interesting: Your stat "Throwing ability" does damage to an opponent before combat even started and always hits whereas normal melee attacks have to hit via the stat "focus". That way you could knock out an enemy with an old bottle, shurikans or dynamite before he even reaches you. Funny that. This is a very well done browser game which has a coherent storyline and good graphics to support the post nuclear atmosphere.
